Arsenal fans go nuts as Houssem Aouar breaks his silence amid talk of £46m transfer

Arsenal fans have wished Houssem Aouar well ahead of making his latest appearance for Lyon. It's actually a landmark day for the 22-year-old in the Ligue 1 clash away at Lorient as he has reached a century of appearances for the club - but will it be his last? Talk of Aouar sealing a move to the Emirates Stadium has gained momentum over the past 48 hours.

Firstly, Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas confirmed that Arsenal have made a bid for the playmaker, but indicated that the offer was rejected. "At Lyon there will be very few departures: for Houssem, Arsenal is much too far from his value," Aulas wrote on Twitter. "We count on him to make a big game in Lorient and lead OL in Champions League next year." However, football.london understands the Gunners are ready to increase their offer to £36.5million (€40million) with a further £9million in potential add-ons (€10million) as they look to seal a deal for Mikel Arteta's dream transfer. Whilst some Gunners supporters have spotted a potential transfer hint with a video clip posted on Lyon's social media, Aouar has kept rather quiet regarding his future. But he's been active on Twitter ahead of today's game.

Aouar has posted an image of two of his matchday shirts, with a simple message. Judging by the response of some Arsenal fans on social media, they think this is a farewell message. Take a look at what's been said on Twitter...

As revealed by Lyon sporting director Juninho, Aouar would be the dream signing for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta. "Houssem Aouar is really well liked by Arteta," said Juninho. "There were some discussions for [Matteo] Guendouzi, who is also a good player. He was brought up during the discussion. "But we don't need his profile, we were very clear. If it is like that, we are not interested at all, we cut the conversation, that is where things ended."
